New IT managed service provider for Birmingham

New IT managed service provider for Birmingham Metropolitan College.

The ICT outsourcing contract will see Carillion uniting both colleges’ existing IT systems to create one new single IT infrastructure to support their 1600 staff and more than 22,000 students. The colleges have a vision to create an outstanding environment for their learners and this will include IT facilities which are first class.

Carillion will be enhancing the current ICT service provision across the different college campuses by providing a dedicated ICT Service Desk to act as the single point of contact for all ICT queries across the sites. The Service Desk will offer remote technical support and advanced levels of first contact resolution. This will also be supported by an on-site ICT service team providing desktop support and on-site project resources at the colleges’ main sites.

During an initial six-month period Carillion IT Services* will work to seamlessly unite existing systems and data from both colleges before creating one single, flexible IT system for all sites.

“Through this contract with Carillion a service will be developed that will not only support us through a period of significant change and development, but more crucially, will deliver a more flexible, modern learning environment for staff and students alike,” commented Clive Hill, Executive Director of IT and Estates of Birmingham Metropolitan College. He continued: “This project will make a significant contribution to the development of education, skills and future prosperity in Birmingham and the local area.”

Noel McNulty, Managing Director of Carillion IT Services*, added, “We are delighted to have been selected as the ICT service provider for Birmingham Metropolitan College as they enter this exciting phase of their evolution. Carillion has designed a bespoke ICT service for the colleges, which reflects their desire to provide a true 21st Century learning experience for their students.”  He continued: “With our significant experience in the education sector, I am confident that we can contribute significantly to the success of this major project.”

*Carillion IT Services* Ltd is now trading as Capita IT Services as of 01/07/09.
