Capita IT Services today confirms that it has been selected as part of the Carillion-led Local Education Partnership (LEP) to provide the managed ICT service for Wolverhampton City Council’s £370 million Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.

Capita IT Services will be providing a fully managed ICT service to 25 secondary schools across Wolverhampton in a seven year contract which is worth £34m to Capita IT Services. The managed service includes the design, implementation and full support of a city-wide ICT solution.

The Wolverhampton schools will benefit from innovative ICT infrastructures, providing appropriate access to school systems anytime, anywhere. The improved infrastructures will bring the advantages of a personalised learning experience which will offer increased choice and flexibility. The ICT to be provided includes specialised equipment to meet the needs of students, teachers and the local community - including mobile, handheld and fixed devices – and is designed to respond to the requirements of the individual.

This appointment is part of the Government’s £65 billion BSF programme which aims to re-build or upgrade nearly every secondary school across England.

Lee Hewett, managing director at Capita IT Services, commented: “This gives us an outstanding opportunity to deliver city-wide ICT transformation for the benefit of all secondary schools throughout Wolverhampton. ICT plays a vital role in enhancing the learning experience for young people today and the innovative and diverse range of technologies which will be deployed across the schools are designed to have a positive impact on students and teachers alike. We look forward to working with Carillion and Wolverhampton City Council to create high quality, inspiring and modern learning environments across the city.”

Capita IT Services is a leading ICT provider in the BSF sector and is working with Carillion in delivering ICT to the BSF projects at Durham County Council and Rochdale Metropolitan Council.

Capita recently acquired Ramesys, ICT provider to the education and commercial sector, which added BSF partnerships with Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council, Manchester City Council, Westminster City Council, Nottingham City Council and the London Boroughs of Waltham Forest, Greenwich and Tower Hamlets.
