Hopwood Hall College selects technology partner

Hopwood Hall College selects technology partner for £80 million redevelopment.

Carillion IT Services* today announced it has been appointed as the technology partner for Hopwood Hall College’s four year redevelopment programme to transform it into a true 21st century College, involving a state-of-the-art new building in Rochdale, Greater Manchester and redeveloped campus in Middleton. Hopwood Hall College delivers vocational programmes to over 8000 students and their aim is to provide the widest range of quality education and training, ensuring students achieve both individual and employment goals, whilst meeting the skills needs of the region.

Carillion will design and install the new ICT infrastructure in both campuses as part of their ‘intelligent building’ solution. Hopwood Hall College will benefit from having a fully integrated and compatible ICT, information learning technology (ILT) and building management system (BMS). This will allow the College to provide a flexible environment enabling users to access learning facilities from any location within the College buildings including foyers, lounges and common spaces, as well as a range of locations in the local area such as the home, a community learning centre or youth club.

The Carillion design team will work closely with the College’s lecturers and students to establish how ICT and ILT can support the learning and teaching experience both now and into the future and establish how best to enhance operational processes, such as customer services and integrated business systems.

Derek O’Toole, Principal and Chief Executive of Hopwood Hall College, commented: “We selected Carillion IT Services* as our technology partner of choice due to their expertise and experience in designing and delivering flexible ICT infrastructures for College new-builds throughout the UK. Through ICT, we aim to enhance the quality of learning for all who come to the College and we believe that the planned redevelopment will make a significant contribution to the regeneration of Rochdale and the growing economic vibrancy of Greater Manchester.”

Noel McNulty, Managing Director of Carillion IT Services*, added: “We are looking forward to working in partnership with Hopwood Hall College to create a flagship campus combining modern architecture with innovative technologies. Our aim is to deliver a true 21st Century learning environment which will provide the College with the foundations to deliver pioneering teaching and learning experiences and support different styles of learning to ensure every student is provided with appropriate access to resources, at anytime and anywhere, enabling them to fully maximise their potential.”

*Carillion IT Services* Ltd is now trading as Capita IT Services as of 01/07/09.
