Carillion IT Services to install a new system

Carlisle College is kept connected during £30 million transformation.

Carillion IT Services* today announced it has been appointed by Carlisle College to install a new integrated IP telephony system and provide technical support as part of its planned £30 million redevelopment to become a 21st century college. The college, which offers an extensive range of higher and further education, professional qualifications and community programmes, is currently in phase two of its rebuild project. This will see one of its buildings demolished and rebuilt, meaning staff will be re-located to temporary onsite accommodation until the work is completed in January 2010.

Carillion IT Services* will be installing a flexible Cisco IP telephony system, including 250 handsets, which will be deployed over both the existing two year old building and the temporary portacabins while the rebuild takes place. Importantly for the college, the new system can be simply deployed and easily transferred across the new flagship campus once built, without any user disruption. Under the contract, Carillion will also provide 24/7 technical support until the rebuild is complete ensuring staff can continue to provide a first class service to current and future students contacting the college.

Moira Tattersall, principal of Carlisle College, commented, “With the contract for our current voice IP provider coming to an end, we had the opportunity to select a new system to ensure staff can continue to work efficiently and without disruption during the rebuilding work and beyond, into the new building when it is approved.
