Capita IT Enterprise Services wins £4m contract to modernise IT in West Dunbartonshire council buildings

CThe contract will involve implementing new hardware in many council offices in Clydebank, Dumbarton and Valeof Leven. This will provide council employees and community facilities with a modern desktop environment, additional bandwidth and improved network speeds,as well as wireless access for staff and school pupils.

Benefits of faster internet access include the ability to offer additional online services to local communities, such as enhanced services for job seekers and people seeking online training. The new network will also enable greater flexibility and mobility for council staff, resulting in better access to services for citizens with staff able to support more front-line services in person.

West Dunbartonshire Council, through competitive tender, selected Capita to deliver the council’s IT Modernisation project. Over the next year, Capita IT Enterprise Services will be working in West Dunbartonshire alongside its wide area network (WAN) specialist partner, Updata Infrastructure. In October2011, Capita signed a strategic alliance in Scotland with Updata and they have already worked together on contracts at both Fife Council and East Lothian Council.

Patricia Kerr, manager of ICT at West Dunbartonshire Council, said: “This is an exciting time for the council as we undergo an extensive modernisation of our IT infrastructure. Capita was chosen as the successful supplier after a rigorous competitive tender process. The investment will help our staff provide vital services to local communities.”

Peter Hands, executive director at Capita IT Enterprise Services, said: “Securing this contract builds on the successful work we have already undertaken in other councils which has allowed us to understand the demands in delivering services to citizens. The improved network capability and latest technology will help staff to do their work and offer enhanced services across the region.”
