Capita IT Services to deliver ICT managed service

Capita IT Services to deliver £3.3m end-to-end ICT managed service.

Capita IT Services today announced its appointment as ICT managed services provider for NHS Hounslow in a £3.3 million contract over three years. The managed service, which will run for an initial three years, commenced on 27th July 2009 and will see Capita IT Services delivering an end-to-end outsourced ICT service to over 1,200 users across NHS Hounslow’s commissioning and provider service arms and general practitioners.


The managed service will be delivered throughout the Hounslow area to 71 locations, including hospitals and doctors surgeries. NHS Hounslow is responsible for the health of over 256,000 people across Bedfont, Brentford, Chiswick, Feltham, Hanworth, Heston, Hounslow and Isleworth in the west London area.


Capita IT Services’ solution has been designed to provide NHS Hounslow with tailored ICT and an enhanced level of service to every ICT user. These improvements will be achieved through the delivery of a complete outsource service across the areas of network and infrastructure management, end user services, infrastructure hosting, syndicated disaster recovery provision and security management. All of the services will be managed through Capita’s 24x7 Service Desk, which will provide a single point of contact for all IT incidents, service requests or queries.


Another fundamental element of the agreement is to transform NHS Hounslow’s entire ICT infrastructure through the use of virtualisation. This will reduce the Primary Care Trust’s server footprint, while offering improved performance, reliability and security.


In late 2008, following independent review, NHS Hounslow determined that partnering with an established ICT partner represented the most appropriate method of obtaining the ICT services they required in the medium to long-term. This strategic decision was reached through the acknowledgement that they were continually being asked to deliver greater levels of service for a lower cost. This could be only achieved through the establishment of a partnership that provided immediate access to skilled and experienced IT professionals and appropriate resources.
