    BAE Systems Submarines

    Submarine Solutions is a crucial component of BAE Systems’ naval activities, as well as a key partner of the UK’s Ministry of Defence. With 4,650 staff across nine locations, BAE Systems Submarines needed an IT partner that could deliver and manage their entire IT environment, meeting the twin challenges of advanced capability and affordability.

    About BAE Submarine Systems

    Employing approximately 4,650 staff across nine UK locations, the organisation is the only UK builder of nuclear powered submarines and operates principally from its base in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria - designated a submarine centre of excellence.

    The contract

    In September 2006, Capita IT Enterprise Services signed a five year contract for the provision of IT services to the whole of BAE Systems Submarine Solutions. This end-to-end IT service involved the delivery of IT support and delivery services across two distinctly air gapped network environments and involved the design and commissioning of a completely new Restricted (High) environment.

    In order to deliver this contract, we have established a dedicated IT support team of around 70 individuals including significant numbers of TUPE transfers from the incumbent supplier.
